Die ewig schönen Bossa Novas von Antonio Carlos Jobim. Die unsterblich gewordene Muse Astrud Gilberto. Der von allen Zwängen befreite Jazzgesang des Al Jarreau. Liza da Costa hat sich auf ihrem Weg künstlerischer Selbstverwirklichung prägende Momente der World Music geradezu einverleibt.
Aufgewachsen in Deutschland, hat die Sängerin mit den portugiesisch-indischen Wurzeln ihre musikalische Heimat im weiten Feld des Bossa Nova gefunden. In jungen Jahren erkundete Liza da Costa mit der ihr eigenen unbändigen Neugierde und Leidenschaft verschiedene musikalische Terrains, von Soul über Pop bis hin zu Dance und Techno.
Ihrer eigentlichen Bestimmung ist die Sängerin mit der vitalen Stimme aber erst mit der jetzigen Formation Hotel Bossa Nova richtig nahe gekommen. Die beiden Alben „Ao Vivo“ (2006) und „Supresa“ (2009), die sie mit diesem Jazzquartett aufgenommen hat, sind lebendige Zeugnisse, wie vielfältig und modern Bossa Nova in unserer Zeit interpretiert werden kann.
Die musikalisch anspruchsvollen Songs veredelt Liza da Costa mit einer lyrischen Tiefe und einem poetischen Zauber, der melancholisch anmutet, doch die Seele so frohgemut stimmt wie ein endlos schöner Tag am Meer. Derzeit arbeitet Liza da Costa mit Hotel Bossa Nova am nächsten Albumjuwel, das noch anmutiger funkeln soll als die beiden Vorgänger.

The eternally beautiful Bossa Novas by Antonio Carlos Jobim, the undying muse of Astrud Gilberto and Al Jarreau’s liberated jazz singing – these were the formative moments on Liza da Costa’s path to artistic self-fulfilment. Growing up in Germany, the Portuguese-Indian singer found her musical homeland in the wide regions of the Bossa Nova. With her irrepressible curiosity and passion Liza da Costa started out on her musical journey by exploring different musical terrains, from soul and pop to dance and techno, but she first found the vital sound that characterizes her as a singer with the Hotel Bossa Nova ensemble. „Ao Vivo“ (2006) and Supresa“ (2009), the two albums she recorded with the jazz quartet, are living proof for the manifold and modern interpretation of the Bossa Nova can in our time. With an occasional tinge of melancholy, this singer refines the musically demanding songs with a lyric depth and poetic magic that lifts the soul like a seabird over an endless expanse of blue ocean. Liza da Costa and Hotel Bossa Nova are currently at work on their next musical pearl, an album which promises yet more charm than its two predecessors.
